I bought one nice bubble tip anemone a year or two ago to host a clown. It has fragmented and now I have eight. There were 16, but as they attached to the wall of the tank, I used a razor blade to carefully pry them out. My problem is that they are stinging and killing quite a few of my cap montiporas and acans. The remaining ones are staying in the rocks, and I can't seem to coax them to other areas, though I have done all I can to harass them where they are. Any suggestions? Will Aiptasia-X work on them? I will be glad to take any and all advice.

Where do you put the ice cube? Against the basal disc?

You might want to freeze a rodi cube so you don't pollute your tank with unwanted silicates and junk.

Thanks! It makes sense to use rodi. place it on the basal disc?

I take the ice and hold it against there foot and kinda pry them off with the ice. Or take a powerhead and point right at them and they'll run off on there own.

Thanks for the info. Now I just need to find a way to make an ice-cube using the RO/DI. I have my RO/DI unit in my classroom. I don't have any ice trays. I may just make one really big 'cube' out of RO/DI in a plastic zip-lock bag.

Or put a small amount of water in some water bottles and the cut bottle away.;)

Ok, all. I tried the ice cube trick. The majority of the offending anemone is gone, (withdrawn into the rock), but there are fragments still there which I fear will come back in multiples.......

I've had this problem before. What I did was cut a pice of PVC and glued it over the whole the nem is in. I checked on it every few hours and about a day and a half later the nem moved onto the PVC trying to get to the light. Snap the PVC off and there you go.

Clever. I've used frozen RODI cubes, or just putting a regular ice cube in a plastic sandwich baggie, I've also used power heads, etc and sometimes nothing works. I've since gotten rid of all of my nems, but would love to try this!

Hmm. The PVC might be a VERY good way to go. My only question would be how to get it glued into such an unusually shaped reef structure.

Try making a base with that frag putty stuff, fit it down in the crevices and cracks and what not and use it to make an even base that your pvc can sit on and attach to? Pull the pvc out when the nem moves, that putty stuff is relatively easy to pull apart. Might work, might not.... o_O

This is pretty much what I did. There are a few spots where I thought he could get out so I stuck a rock in the spots. I have removed a large nem and a very small one with this method. I don't have pictures of when I remove the large nem with the PVC but here's a picture of when I remove the small one.
