I finally have my tank started. My issue is my eshopps hob overflow 1200 is gurgling. It's DRIVING ME NUTS. How can I quiet it. It's 2 bulk heads, at 1 inch. My return can be all the way down and it still gurgles.

With an HOB style overflow style box, I would not dial back the flow with any valves. That’s an accident waiting to happen IMO. Dialing back with a gate valve works for a Herbie or Beananimal type drain as you have trickle and emergency drains as redundancy. When I ran an HOB overflow, I used a Stockman standpipe to get my overflow to quiet down and stop gurgling. You will need 2 as your Eshopps HOB 1200 has 2 full siphon drains.

A couple of things in the video that were different for my Stockman was instead of drilling multiple holes, I Dremeled out 2 big squares in the pipe to reduce chances of something getting caught in the multiple smaller drain holes. The second was I never had a valve for the airline tube. For me, the airline shoved about 5” or so down the Stockman was enough to quiet my HOB overflow and stop the gurgling noise.

Here are another set of plans.

ball valve on the return pump.... slow down the flow into the box.....

or adapt the 1" bulkheads into 1.5 inch pipe like i did

it will quiet down when the pipe slimes up
