I got my first banggai cardinal yesterday, and I introduced him to my 1.5 yr old (pretty established) 30 g biocube. The only other fish in there is a a goby, big clean up crew, and lots of coral. Tonight I noticed he was lying on his side at the bottom of the tank and breathing hard :((( I don't know what's wrong with him and I got scared of letting a fish die in my tank and messing up my levels so I quarantined him and now he's still on his side at the bottom breathing hard... I don't know what to do, if I can even do anything...

Nitrite: 0
Ammonia: 0
Salinity: 1.024
30 gal biocube stock lighting
Three tier media rack with filter floss, purogen, matrix carbon for filter system

Cardinal straight from fish store or from another's established tank? Was he eating before? Did you acclimate? Ph,temp?

It was from a fish store. We fed everyone yesterday afternoon and he ate a little bit. When putting him in I put the bag in the water and I dripped for about 90 minutes. pH is at 7.8....hm that's low maybe that could be a factor. Temp ranges between 78-80 throughout the day

He's gotten worse..... I think he's a dead fish....... :( still breathing but I don't think he's going to make it much longer

90minutes a bit much IMO but not a killer I think. Might just be the fish and how it was caught before it arrived at fish store. Do you know how long it's been at the store? I usually wait a few days before pulling the trigger on any new fish. Yea he looks like a goner... Sorry

I have more coral than fish so that's kinda been my go to timing :/ No I'm not sure, the owner constantly has like twenty or so in the tank everytime I go, so he could've been there a few months or a few days :/ My poor fish D:

I like to keep my ph between 8 and 8.2 but i dont think is a factor here

Its very strange to me because nothing seems immediately wrong with my tank and nothing seemed wrong with the fish. It was just sudden... :(

I'll try freshwater....he's still breathing afterall...

I had two that died this way. 30 gallon. No apparent reason. One right after the other. Sucks cause they were a mated pair to.

Welll he didn't make it through the night... I was so hopeful because he swam around in the freshwater dip but when I took him out he went listless again...
