I have had my Red Sea 425 xl set up almost a year. I took coral out of my other tank right before a Dino bloom. I cleared those up but no matter what I do I still have what looks to be detritus. Tds is zero from RODI water. No overfeeding and no matter how often or how much water I change, it’s no bueno! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I did and I’ve replaced water and I’ve vacuumed into a filter sock and kept the same water and did a separate water change.

Can it be blown off or is it sticking to the rock / sand? Does it look reddish? Does it come off like sandy particles or in clumps / sheets?

Looks like it could be cyano. You have to use chemiclean right now it’s the only way.

A lot of suggestions but this has worked for over 200 people I recommended this to:

First- Check phosphates and nitrates to assure theyre not elevated.
Here is full program:
Prepare by starting with a water change and blow this stuff loose with a turkey baster and siphon up loose particles.
Turn lights off (at least white and run blue at 10-15%) for 5 days and at night dose 1ml of hydrogen peroxide per 10 gallons for all 5 nights. If you dont have light dependent coral- turn all lights off.
During the day dose 1ml of liquid bacteria (such as bacter 7) per 10 gallons.
Clean filters daily and DO NOT FEED CORAL FOODS OR ADD NOPOX as it is food for dinos.
Day 5,, you can start with blue lights - ramping up and work your white lights up slowly

Dusty and reddish. Hard to be positive on color, black sand bed. It vacuums and comes back.

people mentioning cyano and i had this exact problem except it was all over my rocks. best solution would be to get a strong nutrient export system ie macro algae sump etc. and if you already have that then something is causing too much organically to be found. it has to be something. i fixed it by adding a sandsifting goby and a bunch of fat turbos and added macro. everything gone in less than a week. but something is feeding that bacteria
