OK, so I was at home tonight when all of a sudden I heard a POP! and then the sound of water falling on my floor! Luckily, this is a small AIO tank. (32g Coralife Biocube)

Luckily, I just bought a brand new (well,...it was an empty display tank from my LFS....it's a 25 g AI Abyss Step Down NANO tank) So, I got all of the live stock put in along with all of live rock...but not the substrate.

I would like to put in new substrate. Is that even doable? How should I go about this? Do I need to treat this as a brand new tank or is it already cycled? (I had to use all new water....100% water change but all of the live rock is the same. I am worried that I am going to lose everything. If anybody out there has any experience with this situation, please help. Any advice out there from seasoned hobbyist is welcomed.

Thanks in advance

Josh

If you move it all quickly it will be like doing a 100% water change and most of the beneficial bacteria will be in the rock work.

You could add substrate maybe through a long tube so it doesn’t cloud the water.

If your concerned or detect any ammonia in a few days maybe get a bottle of ATM colony or similar ready, but I think you should be fine.

hi,bummer sorry to hear ,lucky had a back up!!,great news in bad situation!
i think you will be fine,as said above monitor
as far as adding sand i would recommend live, best way i have found is container with lid ,take down, open slowly, pour slowly !! best wishes

Was tank level? (#1 reason they blow out)
A Rubbermaid tub or similar makes a great temporary tank
