i'd be grouchy at 5 am too. lol , but good to hear about the bulb. are you acclimating the bulbs to your tank? any screens for shade? or did you just pop em in? if you say purple tint , that sound sweet. glad to hear you like the bulb. i have to make my mind up on this. even if a picture dosn't do justice, could you still post one?

Any updates on the elos bulbs? Wanna here more about them. Anyone else using the elos 20 or 14 k?

What par you getting on those elos? (from one fanboy to another)

I do not have a par reading yet I am waiting till the weekend so that the bulbs have more time to burn in. They still look great and I am happy with my coral colors still. The color has not changed much if at all. I noticed that some corals that did not have as much color under Radiums now have more color but there are some that look better under Radiums. The Radium has a lot of actinic in the bulb but this bulb makes everything look different in a good way too. My Tyree Purple monster looks amazing under the Abyss as do all purple corals now. I think I liked my Radium better for my Chalices. If I could fit 6 metal halide bulbs over my 180 I'd have it made. But to chose one over the other is going to be tough. If I had to guess the Elos will have more par and better growth. However I will need to get back to you on that with a solid par number. I should find out soon.

Google the Elos 20k Abyss bulb . Sites are stripping links . I didn't want to offend R2R . There is a tank with some pretty nice pics's and the 20k can stand on it's own with out t-5s . At least for my tastes. The bulb burns kinda pink and then burns in to a crisp blue with hints of purple and pink . The Elos 14k is reported to be more white in flavor so if you like white it may be a nice bulb choice for you .
Lumatex and Radiums are very popular . A buddy of mine runs that combo and his growth and color are impressive .He has to supp to get the color more blue . Radiums are kinda tried and true . I like blue ,so the Radiums fired by Ice caps are bluer .The Lumatex burns them more crisp with with a hint of blue .
I am on my fourth bulb since December and have not found the bulb with the right stuff yet . I presently have a Reeflux 20k and unless I dim the bulb it's more crisp white with a hint of blue in it .
Don't forget to look at the Ushio 20k / Giesemann 22k as those bulbs are nice too.

its subjective if you prefer purplish or bluish. I've had both and prefer bluish. no supplement needed. I think some that run purplish adds actinic supplement.
