Can someone please tell me of a good camera to buy. And explain to me how to pick a lens. Can you just buy the camera and use the lens on it or do you need a better one?

Better to have great glass on a cheaper camera than cheap glass on an expensive camera.I can second the expense part. I bought my first DSLR used and put about $800 in it, sold it for $500. Bought a pro body for about $3k. Then I found out how much glass factored in to sports images. Three L lenses later and my camera equipment is worth more than my car... and now it's old and outdated. The lenses hold their value, but I'm at least two versions behind on the body. Maybe when my lottery investment pays off.... *sigh*
