I'm not sure if the glass sections up top are functional or not. I think they were made to help support thin top glass lid. But I'm afraid there to support the tank structure, any ideas if I was to remove them? And how to do it. The glass is 1/2inch thick. Thanks

I cant tell exactly what you are talking about but if they are glued in then I would not remove them. Glass strips are generally used at the top of tanks to provide ridgidity and structural integrity to the primary sheets forming the front and sides (they also serve to put lids on).

I see so many tanks with skulls. Looks cool.

That glass across the top provides structural bracing for the tank. Do not remove it as you risk blowing out the front and rear lanes of glass if that support is removed.

How do rimless tanks do it, how are they made so big, they need no support brace?

They are a thicker glass most times but it depends on length of the tank some manufacturers do it just to err on the side of caution. I have an 8’ tank with two of those braces in them if I was to take them out the front and back would bow causing either a crack or separation of the silicone seems.

Thank you, I won't take them out, just wondering, it would improve lighting. There is no way to polish the glass, permanently etched
