Hi,

After a few years I'm starting back up in the reefing hobby and I'm slowly piecing my 65 gallon tank together. At the moment I'm having a hard time finding a skimmer that works with my setup. I'm very limited on space inside the tank stand where my sump's going to be and I'm trying to avoid going the hob route. The part that's most troublesome is finding a skimmer that will fit the height and still give me some room to work. The height I'm currently working with is 18 inches. But I'm looking for something around 15 to 16 inches tall in order for me to have room to work down there if need be. I know that size is a difficult thing to ask for and still have the power for 65 gallon, but if anyone knows of any skimmers that fit my criteria please let me know.

Thanks!

First, welcome to R2R!!! As you have probably discovered most skimmers are in the 20" tall range. You may want to consider the Tunze Comline DOC skimmers (possibly the 9004 or 9012 depending on your planned bioload).

The 9004 would be too small. SCA makes one rated for a 65 that is 17” tall

Contact Jeff @ LifeReef. He makes custom skimmers. I don’t run one or know the prices, but many people love his product.

Welcome to the family! Sounds like you have quite a few options already. My advice is to choose one and ask for opinions about it. There is a wealth of experience here to draw from. Glad to have you with us.
