Help choosing fish

I’m upgrading to a 120g 5 foot long aquarium and am not sure which fish to get.
It will have softies and LPS. Maybe SPS down the road.

I have the following fish/inverts and I’m attached to them all so no one’s getting re homed and I don’t want anyone eaten or harassed either

- watchman goby
- yellowtale Damsel
- pistol shrimp
- cleaner shrimp
- hermit crabs
- astrea snail
- Mexican turbo snails

I realize I will need more CUC members for the upgrade. Here’s my issue: I research all fish I’m considering on Liveaquaria, make up a list of fish, and then research each fish individually on here. Inevitably, ppl on here will contradict Liveaquaria and I’m inclined to trust R2R over Liveaquaria. So, I present to you, my revised proposed stock list. I am open to suggestion

can the 2 blennies be kept together in a 5 foot or not recommended? I also read someone on here whose established starry blenny got bullied by a new tang. Is this common?

Will the yellowtale damsel have an issue w the chromis
2 PERCULA CLOWNS
GOLDEN NEON GOBY
SLEEPER BANDED GOBY
YELLOW CANDY HOGFISH

I realize this is probably not a good fit w all the fish on the list but may get one depending on who gets cut from the list

The mi das blenny and starry blenny can coexist. Just let the midas get established first.

Blue reef chromis ship poorly and those that survive will kill each other off.

The hogfish will kill your inverts, and as it gets bigger, perhaps even some of your fish too.

Blue spot jawfish need cooler waters. There are other jawfish species that will work though.

Powder blue tang needs more swimming space.

You don't have enough big fish for a cleaner wrasse.

Blue reef chromis - all fish will be picked up at LFS if available. I don’t have fish delivered. Liveaquaria says they do wll in groups. this is why I ask here. So thank you.

Nice list and good luck! I’m a huge wrasse fan so take this suggestion with a grain of salt, but if you are building up to a mixed reef I would suggest some wrasses to control all the nasties that could be (will be) introduced to your system. At least a Yellow Wrasse or Melanurus Wrasse. They hunt all day long amongst your live rock. Have fun!

Love the yellow wrasse but I hear they may grow to eat inverts. Can’t have that. Will look into Melanurus wrasse thx. Also afraid of the jumping. Will eventually get lid. Till then, no wrasses

Yellow coris wrasses are usually pretty safe with inverts.

I had one before the tank crash. It was fine w inverts. But it was also a juvenile. Lots of ppl on here warning me about when they get bigger. As with everything in this hobby, I’ve learned there is no 1 right answer lol

Can you point me to where on here you were getting that info? While it is possible, they are probably the safest Halichoeres for inverts.

Uhhh apparently not. I must have my wrasses confused because looking for the info I was talking about not only yielded no results, but came back that they are a great addition. So, on the list they go. Awesome!!! Thx

QT the Chromis separate from all others, they have have a rate of Uronema infection. This way if one comes in with it then it stays with the Chromis.

Yellow coris wrasses are usually pretty safe with inverts.

I have two Halichoeres (yellow &purple and Timor wrasse)in my 150G surrounded by inverts of all sizes and no issues.

I would skip the hogfish and the tangs and go with the wrasses, the Yellow Wrasse was an excellent suggestion. They are far more likely to coexist with your other tank mates without issues. The problem with either one of those Tangs in a tank of that size with those inhabitants are that it is very likely to become a bully since they tend to be among the more aggressive Tangs and their tank mates will provide virtually no challenge to them. I had a Yellow Tang that was just shy of 4 inches that took over my entire 90 gallon in just a month. Biting and hitting my coral beauty with it's tail scalpel and attempting to intimidate my Melanurus Wrasse as well. IMHO Tangs need other Tangs or other fish that can keep them in check. If you want a similar look to the Yellow Tang but a much better tank mate then the One Spot Foxface would be an excellent alternative. Much better tank mate, similar profile Yellow colored fish that gets good sized. That is what I ended up replacing my aggressive Yellow Tang with in my tank. The tank is much happier with the Foxface. Here it is in action:

Foxface is not a butterfly. Foxface is reef safe.
