This clam has been in my tank for 9 years. Now it’s pulling away from its shell in one area. Is this PMD or is it a fish or a sting? So scared to loose it.

Has it been for a long time? Now and then my deresas can do similar things - but only for a day or so.

Sincerely Lasse

Have your parameters swung at all? Po4...alk? Salinity? Lighting?

Ypu know the routine after 9 years but thats a long time for it to suddenly take a turn....Although clams do go fast.

I'm really sorry and other than making sure the water parameters haven't changed i am no real help...i had one do the same and I feel your pain!

I’ve never had a clam so my reply might be ridiculous...it looks really close to some anemones? Has it always been next to them?

This poor guy doesn’t have significant white growth margin but it must have grown a lot in 9 years. Do you remember something changed in tank before you didn’t see any white margins on the upper rim of the shell?

I put new lights in the tank in Jan. I wondering if I need to increase the intensity. I am thinking the Anenome sting could be a possibility as well as one of the fish nipping at that corner.

That look like a Derasa that have been doing poorly for a long time. Inside the shell even have coraline algae. I did not know that clam can shrink and get smaller., but it seem like hat is what going on.
Something got to really be wrong with your water parameter, maybe trace element. Consider large water change or get him to a different environment/tank.
