Hi I am sure someone will chime in soon as I am no expert. Is all of your livestock OK? or in distress? Have you tried a water change or activated charcoal in the sump?

Pictures would help alot here. Depending on what it is, Activated Carbon could help, but until a little more info is known/pictures shown, it's hard to make a good guess.

I was told to stay away from carbon as I have a purple tank. And I am sorry but am computer/picture dumb.. I do not know how to upload here. I have recently become aware of a Phosphate problem. I have done 2 20% water changes in the past month and have added phosphate scrubbers to the tank. It is slow going but phosphates are coming down. the cloudiness is not going away though...No animals have died int he tank and I do not overfeed, I promptly remove any krill that sinks for more than 2 minutes. It is currently a FOWL tank with some blue leg crabs.... 11 total fish in a 75 E tank..

Interesting read, though my tank has been cloudy for a couple of months now...It is maddening... I do not overfeed, and am actually paranoid about removing food waste that falls to the bottom....I do know a phosphate increase will increase bacterial and algal growth. My question I guess is how do I get RID of phosphates if in fact that IS the problem without totally breaking down the tank in its entirety? :ooh:

I seriously doubt that is whats causing a cloudy issue. But, to get rid of Phosphates you need to add GFO, or Chemipure Elite. Something that contains Granular Ferric Oxide.
Now when you say cloudy, are you running a skimmer? Are these micro bubbles from the skimmer making a mess of the tank?
If not, 20% water changes don't do alot for bacterial blooms, try doing 50% WC every other day, do this 3 times. That will shape up the water.

picture of cloudiness.. Ok so I did the advised water changes over 3 days and no change. My phosphates went down a tad. On the API test they are between green and blue on the middle of the strip.. So between 2 and 5.. And they are 0 coming out of the tap.. I am a an extreme loss... Any more help?

sorry above pic is side shot, looking long ways through tank this shot is front of tank looking back to wall

I had the same problem with cloudiness, from the picture I could see that you have a aquaclear. I have a modded aquaclear so what I did was put a chem pure carbon on top of the chaeto and used filter floss instead of the sponge and my water cleared up completely in two days.

What is cheato? And they are emperor pumps so i can put up to 2 different medias in them.. I was told t stay away from carbon for my tang

I had cloudiness. 3 days and 1 18w UV sterilizer later, it was all gone and crystal clear to this day.

Works wonders:)

Also

Get you some purgien mande by Seachem. They come in two ways. Little pillow looking things and loose. Get the pillow one (or two) and put it in the HOB. When they turn brown they can be recharged. I used them and I find it does help out.

I have phosphate pillows in my HOB filters already.. Today my tank is worse than before any water changes were performed..

Man, i'd swear that was an ammonia bloom. Sure your test kit is working correctly?
