Hello all. Ive recently got my frag system set up. Its a low boy 50 gallon with a 39 gallon sump. Wondering what would be the best skimmer for something that size. The frag tank will be a mix and it holds a six line wrasse a springer damsel and a few cleanup crew animals. Might add one more fish down the road for cleanup. Haven't decided yet. Thanks

hi,octopus ,tried and true :)

hi ,thinking sss 110,many others will come, jmo :)

Reef octopus has a huge following.
I have an EShopps.

when I was at a LFS they told Me that when working properly a skimmer is a skimmer and not to think to much into it. Another LFS told me to get a skimmer from a major brand that I could get a deal on and spend the extra money one would spend on a premium skimmer and get a premium return pump...

that being said every time I see a Deltec I get all warm inside

Just switched to a tunze 9410 on 75/20 sump. Wish i had been running it the whole time, adjust it once, dump the cup as needed. Mine does have a slight buzz sound to it but it is the AC model. The DC is reported to be much quieter.
That being said you cant go wrong with reef octo or a red sea sized for your tank. Let us know what you decide on!

My ac has a slight hum too.
I made it go away by filling a quart plastic bottle with water and sit it on the top of the cup.
The dc is silent.

I honestly didnt mind the smell of skimmate until i go the Tunze. Yikes. I was using a corallife ss that came with my setup, i think it was way oversized for the system.

Bubble Magnus curve 5 , Reef Octopus 110 classic or SCA skimmer

I’m using a Bubble Magus Curve 5 on a Lowboy with a Trigger Crystal 30 sump.

I also have a Curve 7 on the 90 gal display system.

They are a simple, reliable workhorse. You won’t need much skimming with such a low bioload. Mostly for gas exchange.

I prefer recirculating skimmers.
A lot more tunable and can get the most bang from the buck so to speak.
So first I would choose feature then brand.
