Hello!

Getting back into reefing after a 3-4 year break, and I want to actually start making my own water. For years, I relied on LFS RODI and saltwater as I was still in school- living with my parents— and couldn’t hookup a proper unit.

Now that I’ve got my own place, I’m looking to hookup a proper unit to make my own water.

I’m starting with a Nuvo 40. I will have an ATO, and will be doing 15%-20% water changes weekly. I expect to need about 15-20 gallons weekly between top off, water change, baths, etc.

I live in Coral Springs, FL and here is a recent water quality report from my city

I’d like some help figuring out how many stages of filtration is necessary? Is it possible to go overkill on filtration?

I would start with a basic setup ... sediment, carbon, mixed bed DI.

This should get you going. If your water costs are high you might want to do the dual staged RO membranes. Get a feel for how the RO's work, because the truth is that RO is really custom for your needs and the water supply you are using. As you become more familar with what can be done and what you are dealing with then you can tweak as necessary.

RO's can be customized and DIY'ed easily, but you need to have a feel for what you need or want, so for you right now basic is best.

:)
