I have had a kole tang in my QT Tank for 28 days now. He arrived with a couple of small white spots on his dorsel fin and on his side behind his pectoral fin. I have been treating this new fish with HypoSalinity for the 28 days bring my water down gradually to 1.009 a week before. He arrived from LiveAquaria in this condition. I figured it was viral like lymphocystis. Any ideas. Here is the area close up from a picture I took last night. He's happy and healthy otherwise, eating and swimming fine. Don't want to risk my display tank. Any Ideas? It looks pinkish now I included a picture. Thanks!

Moved to the current forum. I think it could be lymphocystis. Can you describe the process you used to get the salinity to 1.009?
Got the fish from the shipper, normal acclimation process. Water set to temp in bag, noticed the spots while it was in drip acclimation. Salinity to 1.024 in qt. lowered salinity to 1.009 over the course of a week. Through replacing the qt tank water with lower mixed salinity water dropping it gradually .002 a day.
Here's a much more detailed photo. There are some smaller dots as well but this is with a bright light. I don't know I'd those are just membranes or something on his gill covering. I'm going to start raising the salinity. Don't know what else to do.

How long has the water been at 1.009? What are the parameters? What are you feeding? The best thing you can do is finish the course of hypo, feed nori soaked in selcon in addition to its regular diet (I recommend frozen) and maintain optimum water parameters. The key is to keep the environment stress free so it can heal.
Been in hypo for 28 days. The thought was that with good water quality and a low salinity it would help heal those spots if it was an open wound. It's hard to make out anything other than what's in the picture. At least I eliminated any ich if there was any. I will start bringing the salinity up slowly. There's a yellow golby and longnose hawk fish in there as well. No signs of anything on them. Eating fine. Everyone has been eating frozen brine, mysis, squid, kole hasn't eaten much green or red algae, but some. Likes any algae that grows on the glass better.

If this is indeed lymphocystis, which would unfortunately need to be confirmed by performing a skin scrape and looking at it under a microscope. I have done this before with success, but anesthetizing a fish with MS-222(finquel) always makes me nervous. If it is lymphocystis, i think the most you can do is keep the fish well fed and in decent water conditions and let the infection take it's course (according to University of Florida anyway).

I believe a Lymphocystis infection would be much larger and a sort of ball type protrusion after 28 days + growth. Those look like dings. Id guess at one point he may have had ich and was scraping on rocks trying to get it off and got those scars. Dont medicate unless you can see growths , lesions or other items stuck to him. Again those look like healing wounds not disease's.
Fish still looks the same, has been actively eating. Its been left in QT the entire time. Currently all water characteristics are normal. Once again fished arrived with these lesion looking things, can't tell what exactly they are. They havent changed for 2 months.
