Hey all, I have a JBJ 28 that has been setup for 5 years. Over the last few months I finally made the jump to corals after having a fish only tank forever. For the last few years I knew little to nothing about the tank, and honestly don’t know how I kept stuff alive. These days I have a pair of clowns, a pair of chromes, a scooter blenny, a skunk cleaner,a handful of snails, and some hermits. The only algae I have ever had problems with was GHA, but when I got the hermits that problem was resolved quickly. About a week ago I noticed some stringy brown stuff that would build up on my sea fan. I would blow it off and move on with my day. Now it looks like it’s starting to be an issue. Any ideas?

Certainly a possibility.

A few questions will help. How old is the tank? What are your NO3 and PO4...and have they changed significantly recently? How do your corals and inverts (snails in particular) look?

If you have access to a microscope a short video at 250-400X of the stuff will tell for certain if it's dinos and help identify the type (which will dictate the treatment).
