I am working on designing a new stand for a new 79L x 30W x 24H tank upgrade. I’ve based my designed from @RocketEngineer, to which thanks again for this contribution to the hobby. I’m looking to design it similar to BRS 160 stand and this one:

Based on the statement that the upper rail length can use 2x4 with an opening of 48” or less, will this work? The entire tank is made with 2x4.

Or could I skip the center beams if I did a 2x6 top rail, as it will be less then 72" center opening?

I would great appreciate feedback. Thank you!

RocketEngineer's plan is solid. Overkill, really, but that's not a bad thing. A solid stand is a good thing under the kind of weight you're talking about.

Personally, before I'd go too far with this, I'd contact a local steel fabrication shop, and request a quote for a welded square tube steel stand. You might be surprised how affordable it can be. Leaves far more open space under the tank, since steel is so much stronger than wood. A layer of powdercoat, it'll last basically forever. Then, you can concentrate your efforts on making the stand look good. A nice cabinet or whatever surround you want. Since it's not structural, you're free to do about anything you might dream up.

Thank you guys for your help! I’m glad to hear this would work out.

@Greybeard I haven’t the slightest idea on what would be a proper design for a steel stand to show them, but I’ll ask around. Thanks for the idea.

@RocketEngineer ah okay, so I’m guessing it would be better for me to spread them out more? Or is it too many? Thanks again!

@Silent it’s a gorgeous stand for sure. I believe it belongs to @HarrisMD.

Send 'em this, with your tank dimensions, and how tall you want it. Specify 1.5" 11 gauge square tube steel.

Hold anything you might want to put on it.
