hi sorry to hear, how old,? size was he?

My condolences. Let’s have the more experienced members weigh in. Testing the water would be a good step. Also, might want to check for any stray electricity and external pollutants.

Did you introduce any new fish lately?

I have added a photo of all the tests I have done this morning. I will look into testing for stay electric. Nope no new fish lately.

Yes .you should check for stray elec, don't think issue, eel's would have been banging top ,trying to get out,any signs big eel did damage to?do you still have body if so post pic ,we can call expert,rt now i have nothing, ;)

He did some like banging on the top last night but stopped the other eel has showed no sign of this behaviour but it is a lot bigger. How would you check for this ? Between the two eels the are very good together. Yea I can try and get a picture.

ok won't be able to get a picture he is frozen.

volt meter, just not sure how,i have always peeled back cuticle on finger ,if tingles problem, not recommending do this ,but if you do put other hand in back pocket, wear rubber base shoes not touching anything wet

lay out on dark background,let thaw,then pic ;) #reefsquad

not sure but looks like other eel bite marks?? @Jay Hemdal :)

stress? post list of other fish in tank before the dr's get here ;)

no problem, just guessing other eel,i'll be back in few hours ,see what doc's think :)

Difficult to say post-mortem, but that does look like an injury. If the puffer is largish, I would suspect that...they definitely can change they behavior over time. Is the only other issue the skeletor being off feed? Eels do that from time to time, sometimes it isn't an issue at all.

One thing I want to clarify - stray voltage is a human health issue (shocks) if it gets bad enough, but will not harm the fish as they are not grounded. For decades, this has been implicated in all sorts of aquarium issues, but just as many tanks have issues and don't have stray voltage. Much of what is measured is induced voltage from pumps. Sometimes it is from a bad seal where the cords enter a powerhead. My father was an electrical engineer and he explained it to me this way: birds can perch on a high tension line with no problem because there is no electrical potential to ground. If their wing touches the tower, they would explode...

Thanks for your help. mainly off food, usually comes out at feeding time but just in his cave. I would say his breathing has slowed down thats the only other thing I have noticed.

thanks @Jay Hemdal ,i actually seen that happen with bird thurs morn, across street, loud pop, falling feathers, had to reset clocks  quick power flash in house;)thanks again for all your help !!

Not a possible issue?

To what @Jay Hemdal wrote about stray voltage - In salt water you can use a ground probe because the water have higher conductivity than the fish - the current will "go around" the fish not through it. In freshwater - you should not use ground probes - if you do that - the current will go through the fish. This is why fishing with electricity is very effective in freshwater but rather meaningless in saltwater. Could work but buy shares in a nuclear plant first.

Sincerely Lasse
