Help filter external canister

Can saltwater use external canister?
Youre going to get the EXACT same answer from nearly everyone on here[emoji38] BUT, you can never hear too many peoples opinions and experiences. When i first started, i juggled using a canister filter. But after looking into it, and reading how hard and risky maintaining a canister filter, i decided to go with a sump. Short answer; yes, canisters can be used for SW. My opinion, in the longrun youre asking for trouble. But fish only, you should be absolutely ok.

So canister just for fish only right?
Yeah fish dont need as much stability as having a reef. With sumps, you basically get a self sustaining filter that is easily accessible. But fish only, theres quite a few steps you can skip.

Canister filters work. The maintenance is a bit more cumbersome. Due to the nature of the canister; having to disconnect and move it for the cleanings. Don't clean too well or you'll risk losing too much beneficial bacteria at once.
On my freshwater setup I run two canisters and alternate the cleaning cycle.
