Hello, I am new to the hobby I have had my tank a few of months, the first thing I added was 2 mocha clowns they have done fine for almost 2 months in that time have added a few snails ( to eat detritus) maybe 5 of them, one fire shrimp, and a bubble tip anemone. All of these things have done fine for at least a month but I tried to add a coral beauty, I took my time did the drip acclimation and he got sick and was just laying near the bottom breathing hard, ended up loosing him, now 3 weeks later I have added a long nose yellow butterfly and he’s doing the same thang after about a week in the tank? My parameters are all good as far as I can tell

Welcome to Reef2Reef!

The two fish losses may or may not be directly related.

Sad to say but fish often carry diseases. Quarantine them is always best.

Can you post a short video of the butterflyfish?
Are the clownfish still doing well?

You say parameters are good but what are the actual numbers ?
Has the tank fully and properly cycled ?
what kits are you using to test ?

Hello thank you guys for the speedy responses, I use an api marine saltwater master kit and tetra easy strips.
s.g = 1.023
Nitrite = 0
Nitrate = 5ppm
Ammonia 0
Ph8.1

Alkalinity = 200ppm

Why do you run your salinity so low?
Low salinity ,
Salinity that low is common for fish stores
And acclimating them to lower salinity would be ok .
depends if what your using to test salinity is accurate .
Alk 11.2dkh and low nutrients which for fish it really shouldn’t be a issue but corals wouldn’t appreciate it .

Acclimation process ?
Were the fish eating ?
Butterflyfish are notorious for not eating . Especially long small nose ones

okay I can work on raising my salinity, I drip acclimated him for an hour and a half, he was eating the first couple of days really well but then about 3 days ago he stopped eating and started hiding more, he has passed since posting this, he looked good nothing on his body and color was good

I don’t know if this is important but as soon as I added him to the tank the shrimp started cleaning him.

If the fish postured and held still for the shrimp, that can be a sign that is had external parasites.
