HELP!! Gas furnace went out and is causing problems

Just after Christmas my gas furnace basically caught on fire. It literally happened while were packing to see the folks for a late Christmas. So we decided to go anyway. While I was out of town I think it was in the 20's at night, and when I got back it was in the single digits at night but I came armed with a new furnace and a space heater. I just got the new furnace installed yesterday I also put another 300w heater in the tank right when I got back. So my tank had suffered from a bunch of temperature swings while I was gone and when I returned until I was able to get my furnace fixed. Highest temp I seen was my programmed temp of 78.6 deg F. The lowest is somewhere around 68 degrees. Now the furnace is working in the house and the temp is stabilized, but some acros seem stressed and are showing signs of stn. I checked my parameter and my alk is a little elevated at 9.5 when I keep it at 7.8. Some acros are worse then others, and I'm concerned the elevated alk is a sign my acros are dieing, since I had just my regular dosing pumps on and now the corals can't use up what is being out in. They were experiencing the temp fluctuations for about 7-8 days.

Is there anything I should do, or just wait it out then assess damage? The Corals with the big skeleton showing spots, should I cut them up?

I am going to be very upset if I lose all of my corals over something like this.

I have saved corals from stn by cutting off the bad and placing crazy glue over the areas a just cut

Are the STNing from the base up?

The 1-2 times I had temp issues too hot was worse than too cold too cold is a waiting game get everything stable and hope for the best some will pull through

Yeah happened to us in the past. Tank got too hot too quick and lost a lot of acros. But have them all again now plus some lol...

Are the STNing from the base up?

It looks more like recession at the edge of the bases, and the center of a massive colony I have. Everything looks a little better today, so maybe they will all recover. I've heard of you get out of temp range the cold end is better then the hot end, so hopefully it works out.

I would agree that the temperture swing is causing your issues. Your alkalinty is fine as long as it didn't jump too quickly. You will just have to stick it out and hope for the best. Good luck.

It looks like everything is recovering. There is a large 2x2 inch dead spot in the middle of a colony so I'll probably have to cut that into a four or five 3-4 inch mini colonies, but only lost 2 frags and almost all minor recession is healed over. Alk is getting used again, so I guess i got lucky.
