Im going back and forth on the two sizes. 25" x 25" x 20" (55 gallon) and 30" x 30" x 20" (90 gallon)
Either will sit on a custom 48" long steel stand. More room for equipment. I had a 50 gallon cube with matching stand before and there was
never enough room for equipment...

After upgrading tanks, the only thing I'm mildly (very, very mild) bothered with having a larger tank is that it is taller. It is harder to get to the bottom. Even then I don't regret it at all. In your scenario, you are only going wider which IMO is always a plus if room and budget permits, which it appears to in your scenario.

I echo everyone else on this thread - go bigger.

For the same or similar footprint, you might as well go with the larger making it more forgiving and allowing room for more livestock with the extra volume

There’s no size in between those 2? Like a 75g? If there isn’t, just like everyone else has said....Go Big!

Cant say I'm surprised by the responses lol. Only reason I'm considering a 55G is I'm in an appartment and the restriction is 50 gallons... I really don't think they know the difference or care that much so I'm going to stretch it out to 90 gallons and play dumb....

put 3/4 plywood under stand help distribute weight,,yes 90

"I wish I'd gotten a tank half as big", said no one ever.
This is beyond true for anyone that decides to stay in the hobby. There simply never enough space and always more out there to enjoy

I bought a 40 gallon Waterbox 6 months ago and it's been great. However, now I am trying to decide between the Red Sea 750XXL or Waterbox 230. Save yourself money & time in the long run and just get the 90 now :)...

Thanks for all your input guys! Got my quotes back from a couple manufacturers today, Reef Savvy and Crystal Dynamics. CDA responded within 24 hours. Reef Savvy took over a week to get back to me and are twice the price as CDA. Pulling the trigger on the CDA 90 as I am typing this...
