Hey Guys,

So I've just got an HOB 8W UV for my 20 Gallon Cube and I'm a little but confused. My tank is about a month old. No corals yet just a pair of clowns.

I called the manufacture AQUA UV because I was told to get a 200 GPH pump but the guys at AQUA told that for a mixed reef you need something around 400 GPH.

My main concern is:

What happens if the pump is too slow (50% of recommended, my case) will it kill good stuff from my water column due to the slow flow and water contact inside the uv?

Should I just buy another pump?

Is there any issues running an UV since day 1 if you want to?

Thanks

I think 200 gph is plenty for an 8W UV and a 20 gallon tank. Aqua UV's recommended flows seem wildly exaggerated to me and I really doubt that you can kill "good stuff" at low flows. I use a 350 gph Eheim 1250 with a 15W Aqua unit on a freshwater discus tank and it does a great job of clearing the water. I would not buy a new pump.
