Help!!! Heater cracked and leaked something into water! !?

My fluval heater cracked during a water change today and I didn't pay attention that it was out of water why changing my water. After I filled the sump back up. I heard a small Crack. I just ignored it cause I thought the rocks inside slipped or whatever. Few hours later I go to turn on my sump light and I noticed black residue (or oil, or grease, or burnt whatever) that leaked out from the cracked Heater!!!?? it smells like burnt gun powder or oil. I'm not sure what's going to happen. ??? Is this something to be concerned about? Do those heaters have toxic internal parts?? And most of if not all the residue was floating and sticking to the surface of the water... if that means anything. Help??!!! What do I do? Is all my fish and coral going to die? M

Put some carbon in a media bag in your tank ASAP to help filter out any chemicals. Also, I'd recommend siphoning out all of the leakage that you can see. Then I'd get water mixing to do several large water changes over the next day or so.

Great... I'm done for... this is so upsetting. So much down the drain... can't wait to see what I wake up to in the Morning.
