Help......heavy metals icp results

ICP test help please

Hello all....

I've had a few issues in last few weeks with monti frags moved into my frag tank system
.. they seem fine for a few weeks then start randomly stripping.I sent a icp in to triton and had results which have elevated heavy metals...

Tin 12 ug/l
Vanadium 98 ug/l
Zinc 29 ug/l
Copper 5.735 ug/l

Since getting results I've checked everything metal in the tank, all equipment is less than 5 months old with no sign of rust or cracks etc. Tank is bare bottom and I cant see any foreign metal objects etc.

Only think I dose in the tank is coral essentials amino and gro plus 2 part with nyos balling salts.

I use red sea blue bucket salt and do weekly 10% water changes, my ro membrane is only 6 months old and I change my carbon block and sediment filter every 2/3 months.

I use filter floss for mechanical filtration which is the jbl branded one and rinsed and soaked in ro because I use it.

I'm at a loss as to where the metals are coming from, any help at this point would be great as im not sure what else to check.

I'm going to do a few 10% water changes over next few days to hopefully help a bit.

First a couple of questions.
How old is the tank.
Is this your first ICP test.
If not your first, did the levels rise inbetween?

So many people seem to have high tin since the advent of ICP.
But is this of concern, and does it effect corals in a bad way?
We do not have the answer. There is a informative thread bere on R2R regarding ICP and some of the results it produces.
Its a long and bit of a dry read, but worth the knowledge.

The copper is the concern IMO.

If this is your first ICP,
These could be leacing out of the rock into the water colum, and you never knew until now.
Do you know the history of all the substrate you have?

Yes it is the first icp test,the tank is 5 months old but the filter media ( siporax) was in a tank previously for 2 years. There is no live rock in the tank or sump apart from a few small lumps of marco rock both display and sump are bare bottom. I do have a large number of frag plugs in the system but these are all ceramic.

Yea with little to no substrate makes it more curious.
I dont know what Siporax is.

This is reaching beyond my current knowledge base.
It could also be introduced by the foods you feed.

I just dont know outside of the copper that is if the rest are an issue.

You could use various polypads or Cuprisorb to help reduce them.

I'm looking into medias now..... ive done my weekley water change today and going to do another 10% tomorrow and next few days

I understand the plan of water changes however it could be in your water or salt mix so you may not be reducing anything.

I do have a large amount of ceramic frag plugs and growout discs in the tank and have come across few people that belive this could be cause of high vanadium?

I've found this screw that holds my float valve together which is inside my mixing container so maybe this is the cause. Im not 100% but it wouldn't of been helping

run some cuprisorb. it removes copper and other heavy metals. the rusty screw surely wasnt helping

A rusty screw is not going to hurt your tank at all.

If you're worried about the copper (sea water can be in the range of your test) then run cuprisorb, but it likely won't get it much lower depending on the food and supplements you're adding to the tank.

Metasorb by TLF does a good job removing heavy metals in general while you look into the source of the issue.

Even the zinc. It's below the 50ppb suggestion of ANZEC.
