So I will be on a trip for 10 days coming up soon and I need some help.Alright so I have a 20 gallon high reef tank with 2 clownfish and a yellow watchman goby my tank is also jam packed with corals (Softies,Zoas,Lps). I have a auto top off already for the tank so that should not be a problem. But I have a skimmer that fills up fast and I have to empty the collection cup ever 3-4 days.So do you think I would be fine to leave me skimmer off when I am on Vacation? My Ro container that houses the auto top off water is only 6 gallons do you think that could last 10 days? I also will not have anyone to watch my tank at all while I am on vacation.

Please Help

Thanks,
Ree

you should just open it op more. So what it skimms is more consintrated.

Do you think I could Just Leave It Off?
I don't want to worry about it overflowing into the tank.

Thanks,
Reed

Well LPS can handle dirty water for a few days as well. I shut my skimmer off all the time just to cut back on the noise. You ever thought about drilling the collection cup and making a drain hole.

What About The RoDi Container for the auto top off its only 6 gallons can that last ten days?

So I am going to buy a new rodi container to hold the water for the top off what would be a good container that wont leak phosphates into the water and is over 12 gallons

Once again how long does that top off container last you now? I'd say get a rubbermade tote 18+ gallons just to be safe as for your skimmer I'd do like mentioned drill the collection cup And rig it to drain into a 5 gallon bucket or something similar so you can keep it on line

Oh I didn't realize you were looking for something temporary. When I go on vacation I just pull like a 20 gallon rubbermaid tub up in front of the tank and drop my ATO pump in there. You do take the risk that if it sticks on you will flood your tank with freshwater and your floor but I have never had that happen.

i turn my skimmer off all the time too .. the corals and fish will be fine .. but i would think about getting maybe a 20 gallon tank to hold some water for top off ... dont know how much evap you have cause i know my top off is about every 2 days i hear my pump kick on ..but im running 8 T5 bulbs and 2 150 watt HQI MHs ..

a used brine tank for a water softener will work great. just need to rinse it out

Here is what I do and it looks redneck but it works. I put a 22gallon walmart tote full of rodi water and put my ato sensor in it like I do my top off bucket......then I run a silicone line from my skimmer cup into a huge 22-30gallon walmart tote on the other side of my sump so when I get home I can just drag it outside and dump it and I never run out of water and don't have to worry about turning my skimmer off.
