Help I.D. Spot on bangaii cardinal

I got this cardinal last week and all has been well so far. It doesn't rub rocks or act funny at all. It devours any food I feed it. But today I noticed this spot on its side. Sorry for the bad pic, it's the best I could get. I am not sure if its a lesion or some sort of worm or parasite.

Hard to tell from pics, but i have seen fish bruise from hitting rocks when they get spooked.

It appeared to have something sticking out of its side. It looks good now though.
