Help! I have a bristle worm!

I just found a spiny looking fluorescent worm in my live rock using a flashlight. Some of my zoas are disappearing and I'm wondering if this is the reason. It's sort of a glowing greenish color with some orange. It looks like it has little spines all over its body. Yuck. How do I get rid of it??? Can't show a pic because of a program glitch. What do I do???

Bristle worms are beneficial to a tank. I dont think theybare the cause of your zoa dissappearences

I second that, bristle worms are awesome and my tank never gets very many. I used to get my woman's worms when her tank was still up due to more peaceful fish. She hated them but her tank rocked. Its a matter of taste :b

Most people have hundred of bw's. They are fine, leave them be.

If you see one, there are probably more. They are beneficial to our tanks and not known to eat coral. I occasionally pick out the big ones with tweezers to keep the population in check. You might want to dip your zoas if possible.

Wait til the lights go out on your tank, then go looking with a dim flashlight. You will see more than just one. =)

Thanks everyone. It's just so nasty looking. And I'm using gloves from now on when I put my hands in the tank.

Trust me there are more reasons than bristle worms to wear gloves.

What a funny subject and it comes up often. I to love the suckers-ever have something dead in a spot you can't get-bring on the CUC which I put these guys into. I have seen some amazingly large ones though and those I always try n nab. The small ones tho I just try not to get zapped by when moving things.

When I moved my 29g Biocube, I had one fall out of the rock work that was about as big around as mu pinky finger and about 12" long. He didn't make it back into the tank

We had a BW problem for a while, Never ate any corals but they were EveryWhere!! We used the Worm Trap they sell just to get the numbers down a bit.. Now when we feed the fish the sand beds not full of the worms. As SeymourDuncan said, Its a matter of taste.

Keep your nutrient levels down and that will keep them in check. They are harmless except that they sting us.

This one is over 12" not stretched out and as big around as my finger, Hermodice Carunculata. Ate lots of snails and a few corals before I caught it.

This is a fire worm. Not a common bristle worm.
