HELP.. I just dosed nitrates from 0 to 40 ppm

Thatis what I thought, but I actually dosed 40 ppm nitrates today and the nyos shows 1 ppm. My api shows 0 in my other tank.
I worked in an Lfs using api for years an know it's a decent product and for that matter they actual make a bottle that works. I used nyos and went right back to api (for nitrates only) if they want to be better than be better but it's a half-but product at best

I would take 40ppm nitrates over tap water.

I also wouldn't trust the test kit... your tank is big and I would think the amount to go to 0-40 would be... a lot.
This ^
I dosed the other day. My current 75 gal tank is 1/2 new (sand and 60% water) and I dosed Neonitro to raise it 5 ppm and it took ~50ml. In a 250 you would have to dose almost 1.2 litres to get to 40ppm!

So how much did you dose? We can estimate the ppm from how many ml you dosed.

You can do a test kit "test" to know which test kit is correct and wrong.
Since you got a bottle of liquid nitrate.

Get 1 gallon of ro/di
Add 40 ppm worth of liquid nitrate per 1 gallon ro/di
Then perform test for each test kit
Which ever matches or close to 40 ppm is the correct one.

40 ppm of nitrates are not too bad.
I had 60 - 80 ppm of nitrates before. I just cant add new invertebrates at that level (60+) before lowering it down.
The results are in! And more than a little sad. The winner is!!… Well API and NYOS both lose. I dosed 1 gallon of new saltwater with 40 ppm nitrate. The results are as follows.

API Nitrate test kit #1 - 0 ppm
API Nitrate test kit #2 - 40 ppm
Nyos nitrate test kit - 1 ppm

I then dosed another 40, results below.

API Nitrate test kit #1 - 0 ppm
API Nitrate test kit #2 - 80 ppm
Nyos nitrate test kit - 1 ppm

This is a real eye opener and I am more than a little upset. API, NYOS, petco, and BRS are not going to like what I have to say about their products and the products they sold me. All well within expiration date.

How about a hannah high range? Mine seems right on the money.

NYOS test kit apparently completely not working. I was dosing nitrates and thought it was not working. Just tested with api and showing 40 ppm. It was 1 yesterday. Do I need to do anemergency water change? Very expensive fish, crabs, shrimp, snails.
I’m pretty new but my tank has consistently ran between 20-40 but after watching a lot of you’ve videos like brs and others they say consistency is key and the best gauge are your eyes, I’ve never been worried about 20-40 ppm nitrates because my corals are growing and my fish are happy
