I am having the toughest time battling algae and corals doing poorly. I had been using salifert to test PO4 and it never showed an issue. I received second hand a Hanna phosphate checker to test and I am now seeing high levels. On my to do list is definitely uprading to the ULR phosphate checker in the near future. Listed are my parameters:
NO3: 0.5
PO4: 0.39 (0 on salifert)
Alk: 8.7
Ca: 430
Mg: 1400
USG: 1.025
Temp: 77.2

My question is this, what do I use? I was told to dose NoPox and have started that, but I don't want my nitrates to drop. What can I use to help target phosphates only? I have the BRS dual reactor on order to start that as well. What can I do to increase nitrates while not consequently elevating phosphate levels. I do have the brightwell NeoNitrate if that is an option.

Maybe something with ferric oxide like Chemi-Pure Elite?

I would be a little worried a second hand checker was not reading accurately when it doesn't match with salifert.

But if it is reading accurately I would GFO instead of NOPOX, as GFO will ONLY remove PO4 and not NO3.

I am pretty sure gfo removes a lot more then just phosphate and nitrates....

It does remove some stuff. But my point was that it removes PO4. GFO does NOT remove NO3 AT ALL!

Which being that his nitrates are at a good level, it's a good option for him. Because NOPOX or any other carbon dosing is going to remove PO4 and NO3
