Help, I think I made an oopsie.

My only issue is people are saying this is still the ge silcione 1, just new label. I am not too sure what to do considering I already used it without thinking because I have used the silicone before with no issues. uggg

Could I run it with just the sand and liverock, then get it tested to see if it is okay?

Buy aquarium safe silicone online. It's inexpensive and you know you won't have problems...
Looking ahead now that would be a smart idea. The only issue is I already used it, just trying to see if I need to tear everything down.

I would not chance it. You will be placing lots of sensitive livestock in your system. I know the idea of doing isn't fun and it's a set back but you want the right foundation...

The safe bet would be to remove it and start over. That said, and I say this with NO GUARANTEE, is to let it cure for about two weeks (or preferably longer) and then try it. I've notice the most issues people have with silicone is not allowing it to cure long enough.....even with so-called reef safe silicones. I've known people who have successfully used GE Silicone 2, but again, allowing it to cure for as long as you can....the longer the better....even a month would be nice.

The two "safe" silicones available at HD are plain old GE Silicone I and the red tube for plastics found over where they sell acrylic sheet goods.

They don't make the plain old ge silicone 1 anymore, its relabeled to this one apparently. At least that's what they tell told me at lowes. All the ge silicone 1s say 7 year mold on it now.

That goes to show you the last time I used that.....maybe 5-7 years ago. The reason is that I've been using this:

Again, (in HD), not found in the paint department with all the other caulks, but back with where they sell acrylic sheets. Have used it on multiple sumps and never had an issue....sticks like grim death. Not sure if Lowe's has this....I haven't looked.

EDIT TO ADD:

Just looked it up at Lowe's, and for my Lowe's, it needs to be ordered. But here's the odd thing, they have it listed for $24.12 per tube. That has got to be wrong. I pay around $8 at HD. I did shoot Lowe's a message that their pricing is wrong for this product.

I have used the original GE silicone 1 in the past but the last time I looked for it they no longer carried it. I don't know if what you used is the same stuff just in a new tube or not, but I wouldn't trust the word of the lowes employee. They also have no possible way of knowing if the formula was changed or not, they would just know that is what they started getting instead of the old tubes.

It's not worth the risk in my opinion.

Would I be able to water test it after I just put some rock and sand in there and know if something is wrong?

I don't think you would be able to tell. I don't know what chemical that it puts into the water that is harmful to inhabitants but I'd be willing to bet it isn't something that a normal aquarium test kit would check for. I wonder if it is even something that would show up on an icp test.

I also don't know how much I would trust asking a person who answers the phones for GE if they did tell me it was just repackaged. Unless you can get ahold of a chemist for the company then IMO it just isn't worth the risk.
