A large enough QT tank for fish being treated, seachem cupramine copper and a seachem copper test kit and a seacheam ammonia alert. at least a 200gal box of salt. for water changes. when ammonia starts to build up in hospital tank. leave display tank fish less for at least 72 days.

Coppersafe by Mardel and Cupramine by Seachem are probably the most popular. Coppersafe is a chelated (sp?) meaning its bound by another ion and easier to use and Cupramine is a free copper and requires you to constantly test and redose to maintain a therapeutic dose while being careful not to overdose. Either way you should use a QT tank unless you never plan to use your existing tank to house any kind of invertebrates or corals.

Cupramine is not free copper, but an amine-based copper complex. I have found it to be much more effective with a wider therapeutic range than other copper medications as long as you slowly increase the dosage to therapeutic levels (I ramp up the concentration over 5 days to make sure fish are not stressed).

Bottom line: if you want to eradicate crypto in your DT, you will need to remove all fish to a hospital tank for treatment. You also will need to leave your display tank fallow (i.e. without fish) for 8-10 weeks to prevent re-infection.

So a sad update: my tang died last night. So today I am doing a huge water change about 80-90 water change and I'm going to let the tank set for 8 to 12 weeks with no fishing but what should I do with my snails and hermit crabs can I just leave them in there or does it matter?
