Help ID this algae?

What you are seeing on the glass is diatoms.
Stripping No3 and Po4 will not get rid of the algae as that is not their only source of energy.

I'm not intentionally trying to strip No3 and Po4, should I be doing something different with my set up? How do I get rid of the diatoms?

you just have a good nutrient control method. at times it can be too good. I did the same with a refugium.
not sure I agree on the diatoms though

those look good.
Hows your snail population.

I probably have 3-4 snails in my DT and 2-3 in my Sump including a huge trochus. I'm only seeing 1 blue leg hermit though. I did find a dead one the other day, idk why he died. I don't mind the algae on the rocks so much as the cloudy looking water with dusty glass.

the cloudy water Id look into.
are you dosing aminos or nopox?

Id look into getting a few more and diverse snails. once you knock the algae down they'll keep it down.

I was dosing around 3mL of acropower everyday for like a week. I think that's what really may have fudged me up.
no, not fudge.
im thinking small bacterial bloom. as you do have a bacteria reactor.;)

I figured I could dose that amount bc of my heavy nutrient reduction methods, and I fed Reef roids and mysis shrimp all daily to try and raise No3 and was unsuccessful but did cause this cyano, diatom hair algae "bloom" or whatever this is

yea, I poke my tank too hard too some days.

I can't ever seem to just leave my tank alone!! Ahhh it drives me nuts how anal I am over it. (My wife too)
I'm a little more worried over this small bloom bc it's a nano. So ready to get the 80 gallon wet so I can drop this nano. It's just too difficult to keep sps happy on such small water volume

id say your doing pretty well. that why I keep poking you;)

This algae bloom is ruining my life...I vow to never overfeed again. :( washed all power heads and frags. It's better I think but my Chesterfieldensis is not showing any PE and I love that piece.

I've been thinking...I tried feeding heavily to increase nitrates, I got an algae bloom instead. So what creates nitrates? Feeding heavily so that the fish poop more? Or uneaten food rotting in the tank? Btw I need to mention I have mostly bare bottom, very little Tahitian moon sand.

both. organics break down into these things we test for.

should only effect the efficiency of your bio filter.

IMO algae in a tank is due to the algae being introduced into the tank. nutrints only encourage it to grow.

def worth re-reading Randys stuff on nutrints. I do still refer back to them and keep learning more.
