Im scared this might be byprosis. I have very small amount on my rocks. This was the best picture I could get. The worst news is that I just found it yesterday and Im leaving for vacation tomorrow!!! I hope everything will be fine by the time I come back. It looks fern like to me. I recently read the thread on byprosis and hoping to try it once I can ID it and when I get back from vacay. What do you guys things?

Don't worry it's just algae. Looks like some kind of green hair algae. It's on your glass so should be easy to remove. Snails will eat any stubble left over after manual removal from rocks.

Wow thanks for asking. I was away for a week. Came back and I found about 12-15 more spots on rock and glass. I started to use reeflux. Yesterday was the 5th day of dosing. I am not really seeing new spots but it doesnt seem like the algae is dying, just not growing. The directions says to do for 5 days only. Not sure if I should stop it or not. Not running carbon or cehmipure caused an algae bloom. Any advice?

Definitely follow the directions. You can always do a 2nd round after you finish the 1st. Carbon won't prevent algae blooms. It's purpose to remove toxins and medications from the water.

Yeah, I had the same strain but didn’t know if it really was byprosis. Decided to treat it at double the recommended dose (sterile tank just out of a cycle) just to be safe.

Even at that dose it took about 2 weeks to kill it all.

The only way I can figure I got it was from my LFS that came out to fill my tank initially (180g), and spores were either in their hauling tank, or on the tubing.

Got back from work and the algae looks like its dying. The color is not as prominent green as it was before. Its turning brown. This was the last dose. Not sure to start another one or just wait and see what happens.

I think I should do a water change and try to remove as much as I can. Or should I leave it alone to have it die off on its own?

Don’t water change for a bit. Fluconazole has not shown to have any impact on any livestock with the exception of some macro algaes that’d you have in your fuge.

There’s a pretty big thread here that covers the treatment cycle.
