Hi all,
I got this coral 2 days ago and I was wondering if anyone can help me with the name and care experience. I think it is a kind of pipe organ so it likes medium light and medium flow. Please correct me if I am wrong and let me know how long it will take to open up, or if there is something that I need to adjust.
This is my set up:
- 29g Coralife biocube with a skimmer and heater in the first chamber, a mini refugium with chaeto and a DIY tower with Purigen and chemipure in the second, and the return pump (264 gph/1000L/H) in the third chamber. (Running for a year)
- A Hydor 400 flow pump
- Live rock
- 2 clowns
- CUC- 2 nassarius, 3 blue leg hermits, 2 red leg hermits.
- Other corals: 3 mushrooms, a Xenia, a Zoa.
I will post water parameter when I am done with the tests in 30 minutes.

Here is a picture of the coral under blue light and another with 10000 k lighting.

Looks like an encrusting Galaxea that hasn't opened up yet. Assuming that's what it is, it's not the greatest coral for a small set up. They are aggressive stingers and send out sweeper tentacles that can be a foot long.

It does look like there's a pipe organ skeleton that it grew over though...

So low flow and bottom of the tank until it opens? then move it to the middle of the tank by itself so it doesn't sting anyone. Does that sound good? I am uploading a picture of my tank to show you where I would put it. Thinking about on top of or at the base of the rock in the middle, or maybe leave it where it is?

General rule Mary is start low and acclimate upwards. My Galaxea really florished with med to high light and good flow. Where to put it now depends on your lights. If they are “basic” then start higher, if superior start lower. Good luck n great start on your tank!

Galaxia , very large sweeper tentacles so leave plenty of room next to other corals
Can likely be put high which would limit its ability to sting other corals
