I came across this beautiful picture of a huge colony group of midnight blue Montipora with green fringes on a reef and decided that I definitely need this for my tank. It's labeled as Montipora aequituberculata but everything I've seen labeled for sale with that name is totally neon green. Unfortunately, I can't find any for sale that look like this. Anyone know what this is and have one they are willing to sell me a small frag of?

That's a great picture!
Where was that taken?
Light and nutrients has a lot to do with the appearance of corals.
Many corals morph from one. Plot to another when grown in a tank.
IMO the monti's you find with the same name is worth a shot and see if you will get some kind of bleu rim on it.

This photo was from an endangered species website. I was looking up the taxonomy of some of the corals I have in my tank and stumbled across it.

Thanks for the advice, I may just have to try that. I wondered if that might be possible- the morphing of color in different situations- but wasn't sure. It was such a drastic difference! I'm super new to reefing so I have a ton to learn!

In most cases it's just WYSIWYG in this hobby but sometimes a coral can take a turn for the better or............. worse of course.
I picked up over the years some nice wild SPS that were looking as normal colorful but nice and they turned out to be a knockout, had it the other way too of course.

Sounds great-I think that's part of the fun! I believe I will just try some of the neon green and see what happens. The green is pretty too so if it stays that color it won't be a disaster anyway.
