Leaning towards some type of anenome but what has me second guessing is its 100% nocturnal. Whats also messing me up is at its base it looks like its actually growing out from a skeleton like some sort of euphy would but I could be totally wrong on that.
I pulled a rock out of sump and this broke off and wife found it somehow!
Its almost totally transparent most likely because its been in sump with single 24watt daylight cfl over it. Will be interesting to see if it colors up.
Check out its mouth. Its about a .25" square but when it opens up with tentacles out at night its about as big as a quarter.
I want to say it broke off a piece of gulf live rock but I do have some fiji rock in there too.

Looks like Phyllangia americana "Rosebud Coral" not horribly rare on live rock.

I have one too- they grow slow and don't really form colonies as much as they form clusters

Thank you its the first time in seeing one after about a year in my system.
I will have to do some research now.
Do you have any pictures of yours?
Are yours nocturnal?
This one may not be opening up during daylight yet because its been in sump in hardly any light and its acclimating

Oddly enough I had the same experience- probably about a year and a half after I had the rock in my system I saw a tentacle and I just started feeding it and it started extending more and more. I don't stay up late enough to see if it's nocturnal, but it does open up during the day for me, though it could be because I trained it to do so since that's when I feed it. I'll try to get a picture and upload it soon.

Cool id like to see it. Thank you for fast ID its defienetly rose coral for sure.
I have it out under my lamp in shaded area now going to be interesting to see how it comes along.

Sorry for the delay- I've been trying to get a decent picture. here's what I came up with.

You can see it's actually pretty open- I just dosed my photo for the day so that is why it opened up- otherwise the tentacles are pretty retracted and it kinda just looks like a mouth.

Pretty cool. Mine stays pretty retracted. Still kind of translucent as well. Going to be cool to see if it gets some color in it.

I have a bunch of them. One of my favorite hitchhikers.
