Help ID what killed my Yellow Coris Wrasse

Yellow coris Wrasse died today after having him for about 36 hours. He was doing fine at the fish store and had no visible symptoms to indicate he was ill. However, today I noticed he was upside down at the bottom of the tank with a red abdominal blemish. He was breathing very hard. He died two hours later before I could figure out what was wrong with him.

I also have a leopard Wrasse in the QT that is doing very well. Swimming, eating, not breathing heavy and pooping brown. I'm guessing this illness or injuring was isolated with just this fish. I tested my water and everything was at 0 and PH was at 8.1.

Need help diagnosing this.

Unfortunately, I think that is possible. It looks like bruising under the skin to me. I could be a bacteria infection but I believe those normally show on both sides. Hoping @melypr1985 can offer her opinion soon.

How did you acclimate him? What was the difference between the LFS salinity & your tank?

Improper acclimation of marine fish can cause capillary congestion leading to the rupture of the capillarys (redness) through sudden exposure to higher salinity levels.

LFS salinity was 1.019. I took some water out of my tank (1.025) and mixed with freshly made RODI water to achieve 1.019. I temp acclimated before releasing into QT.

Shouldn't have been acclimation shock then. @Brew12's theory of bruising due to rough handling is the most likely explanation.

I agree as well. It looks like he got pinned by the net at some point. I actually did this a few years ago with my yellow coris. He didn't make it either and looked pretty similar afterward.
