I've had this guy for about three weeks now. He has been fine up until about 4-5 days ago, then he starting showing signs of infection. At first I thought it might be ich, but it has not gotten any worse and he is now showing the typical signs of ich; ie: no scratching or heavy breathing. He is still acting completely normal and still eats like a pig. I have been enroching all food with garlic and selcon, but havent pukked him from the tank as is didnt want to add stress.

Thoughts?

Looks more like Brookynella to me with a secondary bacterial infection as evidenced by pop eye. You need to get to the disease section of this forum and set up a QT pronto as well as research treatment options. You may be able to save this poor fish and I would try but he is pretty far gone. All other fish in the same system you should consider also affected and treat appropriately.

Thanks for the quick replies. I'll get treatment going when I get in from work.

Agreed, you've got brook. It's pretty advanced so you will need to start treatment as soon as possible. Best course of action is an acriflavine or formalin bath followed by 10-14 days of metroplex treatment in a QT. All fish in the tank have been exposed and will need to be treated while the DT is left fallow for 6 weeks. If you don't have the meds on hand then a freshwater dip might be able to buy you some time. Good luck.

@Humblefish Do you recommend dosing the metroplex directly to the tank or via enriching food? I was able to source all meds locally; all fish have been bathed in Rid Ich Plus and are now in QT.

You only need to dose the water with metro for brook. Odds are Rid Ich Plus (which contains formalin) already cleared it, but metro is a good insurance policy just in case.
