Can someone please ID what’s wrong with my Emperor?? Had him about 2 months since then I have treated the tank with Prazi Pro and Melafix and had great results when he had cloudy eyes. Since then my vlamingi tang, which I have had for at least 2 years! Got really sick with what I thought was velvet so I treated with copper power. Had my water tested yesterday at LFS and copper was at 1.5 so I did a water change and he’s getting worse. I will be setting up a separate qt tomorrow but need to know what best is wrong to treat properly. If I do a freshwater dip for flukes should my ph match or ok if not?

Therapeutic level bare minimum is 1.50ppm and there is recent evidence of velvet getting through 1.75ppm. You also need to consider most test kits have +/-.5 error margin. There is a very good possibility you have been in sub therapeutic levels. The newest guidance is to run at 2.0ppm with a ramp up to prevent velvet from getting through. From the pic I’d say that’s velvet. You’ll need to place all fish in a QT and treat for either 30 days or 14 with transfer to a sterile tank. Your DT will need to be fallow for 6 weeks. I would also recommend a FW dip to give them some relief on the way into QT.

When you setup the freshwater dip, aerate the water prior to the dip, temp match and just before placing the fish use a splash of tank water to raise the PH.

It looks like velvet with a secondary bacterial infection to me.

I would recommend moving fish to a QT. As well as any other fish that share the tank.

5min FW dip then a 90 min bath in acriflavine and then 30 days of therapuetic copper at 2.0ppm

What is acriflavine and how to use? I haven’t heard of that.

Does the same 2.0ppm of copper apply to all forms of meditate copper or just the copper power I am currently using?

No. If you're using a chelated copper, the recommended dosage is around 2 ppm. If you're using cupramine, the dosage is closer to 0.5-1 ppm.

I don't know the exact formulation of copper power, but the product literature recommends a dosage of around 2.5 ppm.

Thank you for all the help! One more question for everyone’s opinion. I will be setting up a qt tank ASAP but is it ok to use water from my dt because it has already established or should I start fresh. Just so all knows, I have in the past two weeks dosed Melafix and Prazipro so I’m not sure if that’s too much medication and if it would cause more stress. Thank you for all the advice and help.
