Help identify a skimmer part?

I recently traded corals for a Maxspect sk series 400 protein skimmer it came with a part, I have no idea what it's for let alone how to use it..Here some pic's..Any help would be appreciated.

Is that a guess? I just have it sitting on top of the collection cup cover in last pic..soild cover with a shut off switch..No holes in cover for carbon to vent through

I searched BRS website,,Googled Max spect accessories. I can't find anything??
