Help identify white "bee hives"

New to reef tanks but not salt water fish. I have these white bee hive looking things popping up all over. Are they some type of sponge??

Kind of hard to tell from the pics, but look like they could be pineapple sponges which are perfectly fine.
 
Sponges alright.
Good guys to have as they are filter feeders and if you have Angelfish they can eat of them.
 
my sump used to have at least a thousand of them . but now they are all gone ;0( ...... But ......... now I have big white sponges . among others in there . I keep my sump in the dark for just that purpose
