Hello!

I’m hoping members of the community here will be able to help identify what is going on with my purple tang. I returned home from a business trip to find him covered in white spots, as shown in the pictures. According to my wife, he has looked this way for about a week now.

My initial thought was that it was ich, but now I am worried it could be marine velvet.

None of my other fish are showing any signs of disease and everyone, including my tang, have healthy appetites and energy. Other than the spots, I haven’t noticed any behavior changes.

Any advice?

If it looks powdery it's more likely velvet than ich. Is there any flashing? Velvet is fast acting. I had a kole tang die within 3 days due to velvet. If you're unsure it would be worth it to pull him and start QT with copper just in case.

Looks like velvet had 2 small purple and a blue hippo with the same stuff.

Thanks both. I do think it is velvet. I’m going to get them out of the display ASAP and work on treatment
