I came home today and seen this, he was fine last night when the lights went out and I left before they were on today. When I came home this is what I see! Any ideas? Parameters are spot on and nobody is aggressive. 2 clowns, 5 chromies, 2 fire fish, 1 pajama cardinal and now a black lined yellow tang [emoji31] any help would be appreciated and how to fix? Thanks fellow reefers!

Torches, hammers, Bta, leathers, frogspawn nothing else big enough or aggressive
I have seen some marking like that appear on fish that have been stung by euphyllia corals, especially torches. I would keep a close eye on it and maybe feed it some vitamin enhanced nori for a few days. If it doesn't clear up in a few days I would come back for more advice.

A sting I can deal with, should I quarantine him? Kinda thought I had some crazy flat worm or tang ich. He’s cruising and picking at the rocks, looks and acts fine.

A freshwater dip would be a way to check the gills for parasites. A dark bucket can make it easier to see if any flukes fall out.

This looks more like the start of a bacterial infection to me. Whether it was caused by a sting or by a parasite is unknown, but I would certainly recommend vitamins in the food and close observation. Be ready to scoop him out to a QT for antibiotics in just a day or two if it doesn't improve.

Trying to find out what this may be, I came home today and seen this marking on my tang. He’s eating fine and pecking at the rocks as usual. Parameters are fine and nobody is aggressive clowns maybe but usually to the fire fish. Have chromies and pajama cardinal also. Also a Bta, torches, hammers, zoas, leathers, mushrooms and frogspawn. Is it a tang ich? Or possible sting? I was told torches may have stung him, any thoughts to what is happened to him? Should he be quarantined? Thanks for looking and any help you may have!

Looks like a sting to me. I’d keep an eye on it for infection.

If it turns red or gets “worse” (spreads) — source acriflavine for a bath, furan 2, metroplex, and kanaplex for treatment in a qt.

I merged your first thread on this with this one so that the answers that were already given are available here too.

Idk the red around the fin and gill look bad... #reefsquad

What’s crazy is I never noticed it, the picture shows the red but up close and personal you can’t really see any red at all.

This is what he looks like under the blue lights. He not wanting to show his right side. I see a spot on the tail as well.

tbat fish is also very, very thin. Do you offer it nori?

Is this guy a mimic / chocolate tang?

Any possibility that he's simply maturing into his adult colors?

Great question Bruce! My wife brought him home and never mentioned exactly what he is but looking at the red around the gills he sure resembles the looks of one starting to mature.

Gonna do just that, thanks for the advice. I hate seeing things like this and not know the cause.
