Hi everyone I noticed this type of brown stringy algae. It is mainly on my sand bed and I think I have caught this pretty early. I did notice a couple air bubbles attached to the algae. My guess is it’s Dino’s and I have already moved forward with treatment. I have opened up my windows to increase oxygen/PH levels. I dosed Vibrant. Going to filter out the algae and put it into a filter sock (NOT DOING A WATER CHANGE). Increased feedings to bring up nutrient levels. (Cut down on GFO I’m using

I could really use a second opinion.

my parameters:
Salinity:1.025
Temp 78F
Alk: 9.1-9.3
Calcium: 420-450
Mg: 1210
Nitrates: 1-3 ppm
Phosphates: .00-.02 (this is why I believe it is Dino’s)

New tank? Give it a year to get past the ugly algae stages. ;)
Yes. It’s only 5 months old. Starting to get coralline growth. I had gone through a diatom bloom in month 3 and the tank is really starting to mature and become more stable. Just trying to stay proactive with any algae problems. I got lazy with bubble algae in my last tank and I really regret it.

can always use vibrant to get it under control.
When using the vibrant I know they say to use the recommended amount for a dirty tank once a week. Do you increase that amount? I have heard of people dosing vibrant 3 times a week but they never say how much

I would follow the Vibrant directions. Your tank isn't bad at all. I haven't used it in years, I think I used about 1/3 a bottle over a few months when I was battling bubble algae. Once gone I stopped using. It was kind of nice to not have to clean the glass as much though.

I would be careful using vibrant with a new tank, Do you check your p04 and n03 levels? check them and check back with us =)
