Would anyone mind helping confirm type of dino based on the attached video and images? Any followed up advise would also be appreciated. Was originally dealing with Cyano, but seems i let nutrients go to zero (nitrate & phosphate) and now I think I have both Cyano and Dinos. I think it is anphidinium, but a confirmation would be helpful so I know I'm treating for the right variety. For the last two weeks, I have been feeding heavier, removed the activated carbon from the hob media filter (add this back if dinos are toxic variety?), and added a small uv sterilizer I had prior (which I read won't help much if it is anphidinium). I originally had a 20 tall > 1 year, with a little cyano, but upgraded to a 40 breeder several months ago, added additional sand and scape to the existing rock almost 2 months ago.

Salinity 1.025-26
PH 8.1
Calc (410 or 490) api vs salifert (new)
dKH 8.2
Mg 1200

Dosing 2 part reef fusion. Currently only part 2 since salifert shows over 500 a few days ago, not sure which to believe. No coralline growth as far as I can tell.

For whatever reason I was having to dose 10-15 ml a day of each part to maintain levels using api kit. Figured it may be because of the new rock, but really no clue.

I've ordered some bacteria to help promote competing biodiversity. Also a mg supplement to get above 1300.

Haven't tested nitrate and phosphate for the last week, but will likely do so tonight/ tomorrow.

Happy to provide any additional details of needed.

I'll keep reading up in the meantime.

Thanks in advance for any help offered!

Looks like Prorocentrum and cyanobacteria

Prorocentrum for sure. Check out Mac's page. Silicate dosing, and raising your nitrates and phosphates via dosing. No water changes. I beat them but it took over 4 months. Uv doesn't help don't waste the $. Mud helped and adding multiple different bacteria to out compete.

Thank you both for the replies! Not one I was considering so very grateful for the ID. I'll check out the threads! And look into sillicate. Glad to hear you overcame the issue Stang67. I've accepted it may be a long term treatment, just don't want to crash the tank completely in the process.

Just wanted to add an update for anyone who maybe be curious or dealing with them currently. I still have dinos when taking a sample, but I have not had any snotty dino buildup in a month or so. Tank is starting to look nice, though I am growing some algae which I prefer over dinos. Snails have been making progress on cleaning up the rocks.

I started by dosing Dr Tim's eco balance once a week at half dose for a month, over feeding, and reduced light output and set duration for 3 hours a day. No water changes except a single 5 gallon to clean up sand around conch. I only have softies and a candy cane, but they are all doing well, except xenia, but I think my flow is too high for them. I'll post pictures at some point.
