Hi guys,

I’m currently running Triton system with a big Chaeto refugium but I’ve noticed this layer of “foam” building up on top, any idea what that is? Is it normal? Good or bad?

Thanks!!!

Never said this before but hard to see in the red light lol.

but cheato when it floats can bleach and starts to decompose ime. This decomposition can then grow other algae on top of it, primarily cyano ime. Can usually stop this by harvesting before this point.

lol I know hard to see like that. I just cleaned the foam (submerged the chaeto) and there is no decomposition in there, check this new photo:

Looks like air bubbles making their way from the prior compartment(skimmer or just overflow) just getting trapped, mixing with some organics. Could even be mixed with some O2 released by the cheato itself.

I think the same, I assume is not bad so I'll just mix it a bit from time to time to clean it
