So, things were going well with my QT until my spotted jawfish showed this today. Any idea what this is and how I can treat it.

Sorry I wasn’t able to get a good pick it looks like a cotton ball on him.

That’s the blue spot syndrome, you must ship it to Connecticut asap! Unless your talking about the blurry white spot that we can’t really see?

Cottony spot would make me think some sort of fungal infection. That's how it is in freshwater. I think it's a little less common in saltwater though.

That is the beginning of a bacterial infection. You'll need to remove him to a QT and treat with antibiotics. Kanaplex and/or Furan2 are good wide spectrum antibiotics that can be used separately or together depending on the needs of the fish.

Also, it's worth noting that Blue spot jawfish typically need a 4in sandbed at minimum so they can dig their burrows. He may have been injured which caused the infection.

Are those better than using formalin ms?

Ok well I have both of the other medications you recommend. With kanaplex do you recommend dosing that in the tank or putting it in there food?

Dose it in the water

@melypr1985 has you covered I agree with everybtjng she’s said, you have he start of an infection and the fish needs sand :)

I think I would hit it with the trifecta: Kanaplex + Metroplex + Furan-2

That will cover all bases, including the possibility of this being BSJ Disease.

and a carcinogen.

That´s probably true for Furan2 too. This type of broad fish medication was once developed for the fish farming industry but at least in Sweden they are banned for that. They are fat soluble and therefore use gloves when handling them. They are effective (at least the variants that exist in Europe) but they harm all bacteria including the nitrifying bacteria.

Sincerely Lasse

I would not mix Prazipro with antibiotics, as it does not always play nice with other medications.
Any idea how long it takes a fish to recover from this usually? I am only asking because the Kanaplex says to only do a max of 3 does. So once I hit the third does if the fish still has the symptoms how long to I wait to start dosing it again?

Antibiotics are very slow acting with fish. I would treat for a minimum of 10 days; maximum of 14 days.
