Hello Everyone, I started my Addiction err hobby in March. I have 2 tanks(one 30g,one 55g) The smaller tank houses the brats ~ a Grumpy Goby along with his equally grumpy/snapping pistol partner, and 2 Tube Anenomes that like the taste of Cardinal fry :/ My Larger tank has approx 65 pounds of live rock, a purple torch, 2 small hammers, a lobo, a brain maze coral, octospawn, 2 chalices, zoas, purple/blue mushrooms, red mushrooms, an orange mushroom, yumas, a flowerpot, 2 favia, a couple unknowns, a toadstool, and a killer acan echinata(he took out a 5 head torch) I also have 2 little Stormtroopers, 2 little Chromis, a Black Cap Basslet, Cardinals, and a Yellow Coris Wrasse. Running a Reef Octopus Hob Skimmer, a Hob filter, Vertex Illumina Led. Not so patiently awaiting a Custom 120 with sump :) Looking forward to learning and chatting with fellow members!

Welcome. I refer to my fish as Star War characters too, it just fits. :)

It's all good, I got a chuckle. Imo, they're just a overpriced clown with a designer name. I've often been asked if they're snowflakes, honestly I have a hard time keeping up with all the variations. Their names are actually Ren and Stimpy lol

Welcome to R2R;)

Welcome to R2R!!!
I'm assuming by your avatar, that you like Zoas. I'm planing on turning the 30g into a zoa garden. Any advice you can give? I'm a bit intimidated by them,so I guess my biggest hurdle will be getting them off the plugs and onto the rock.

Lol yes I do like me some zoas. Don't be intimidated, many zoas are extremely hardy and can grow pretty quickly. In my opinion stability is the key, not just for zoas but in general. Don't chase "perfect" numbers, just keep everything as consistent as possible. As far as removing them from the plugs if they were fragged by someone who know what they are doing the zoas themselves should still be attached to a small piece of rock or frag plug, in this case it's easy to pop it off of the plug. If the zoas have already started growing on the plug I will usually just cut the stem off of the plug and glue that to the rock. The zoas will usually cover the plug fairly quickly.

Do you find that any particular lighting has a better effect on their growth. I'm unsure whether to go with a radion pro or t5ho. I should clarify I'm intimidated by their toxin lol. The Home based Reef Supply I deal with has many years experience, he ended up pretty sick after fragging zoas.

I'm partial to t5 lighting. I have t5 over the display tank and led over the frag tank. I feel like I get both better color and growth from the t5's. If you like the "pop" of royal blue LEDs you can add a reefbrite (or similar) led strip to your fixture. I did and love the combo. As far as toxins go, as long as you are careful you should be ok. When fragging I wear latex gloves. I should wear some eye protection too but sometimes forget.

Great, thanks for your insight :) Do you have pics of your tank?
