I bought a used 29 gallon biocube for a great price and since I've added $500 in modifications and $1,000 in corals. My problem is this: there are 50 to 60 bioballs in the middle chamber and I want to remove them and replace them with a media basket and a refugium. But I'm afraid of removing the bioballs because I've heard it can cause a tank crash. How can I safely remove the bioballs? 1 or 2 a day? 7 or 8 every week or water change? Help I don't know what to do. Thanks in advance

I don't see a problem with moving them just don't rinse them in any way with tank water just pick him up and move them or if you're that worried move one a day

Agreed Bayou, the bioballs are incidental bacteria, can be removed instantly, due to live rock being in the tank past 30 days.

The sandbed is the same effect on the tank as bioballs interestingly, extra unneeded surface area, so if you ever want to pull it / can do but that requires tank takedown to be done safely due to filth typically inside the sandbed

Do you have 29 pounds of well established live rock in the tank?
I'm not sure about the exact weight but here's a picture . I'd say it's about 5 gallons worth
